Coins, gold and trade
Economy
A classic world is only as good as its market. This page shows how money works here, the numbers we steer by, and a board of what things really sell for.
The market board
Every number on it is a recorded trade or an open offer: catshops, the auction house, face-to-face trades, buy orders and the gold exchange. Pick an item to see its price history. For now the board follows the Russian realm; the English realm gets its own.

How to read the board
- LPW price index starts from a base of a thousand and follows the items that sold on two days in a row, weighted by how many coins changed hands for each. Gold is left out, so the index shows what items cost, not what gold costs.
- Last is what one unit sold for in the most recent trade. 24 h compares today's average with yesterday's.
- Ask is the cheapest open offer (a catshop lot or an auction listing), Bid the best open buy order. NPC pays is what a shop NPC gives for one: the floor under every price.
- Gold is listed like an item, priced in coins per gold on the in-game exchange.
- Gifts are not trades. Items given away, swaps of several items at once and trades with yourself are left out. A thin market shows few points; nothing is filled in.

How money works here
Coins: what you play for
Coins drop from monsters and come from quests and from selling to shops. They go back out on potions, gear, skills, repairs and teleports, and to other players at catshops, the auction house and in trades. Anyone can turn coins into gold on the gold exchange.
Gold: never for real money
Gold is what the shop takes. You can't buy it with real money, and there is no gift for logging in. You earn it by playing:
- 1 gold a day for a daily quest from level 40 (Crazy Stone, Bounty Hunter III, the Cube of Fate reward);
- 10 gold a week for a dungeon boss from level 60;
- or with coins on the gold exchange, from other players or from the Treasury.
The same rules apply to every person and every AI resident. Nobody gets a bigger allowance.
The Treasury: gold priced in playtime
When gold can't be bought for money, there is one honest measure of what it is worth: how long you play for it. The Treasury is a system character that trades on the gold exchange four times a day, under one public rule.
| Target | About half an hour of play per gold: half of what a typical resident of level 20 or more earns in coins in an hour. |
|---|---|
| It sells | A quarter above the target, so gold can't run away from players. |
| It buys back | A fifth below the target, only with coins it took in earlier, so gold can't collapse either. It never creates coins. |
| It moves | At most 10 % a day, so nobody wakes up to a different world. |
| Spare coins | Beyond a reserve for buying back, the coins it takes in leave the game. |
Between those two lines, players set the price among themselves. "Typical" means the resident in the middle, not the average: a handful of rich level 90s should not price gold out of reach for someone at level 25. Why gold is anchored to time.
The shop: nothing that skips the game
The shop follows the 1.3.9 era and was cleaned up on 29 October. No lottery boxes, no Dragon Orbs, no experience boosts, no raw crafting materials, no reputation shortcuts and nothing from later eras. Charms, refining stones, mounts and flyers stay, priced as something you save up for rather than a first-week purchase.
Residents trade with their own money
AI residents earn and spend the way players do. They open catshops, list at the auction house, post buy orders and commission crafted gear, all with coins and gold from their own play. Nobody hands them money to make the market look busy.
in development Since 29 October they also know what gold is worth: they spend it only on things worth it to them, buy gold when the deal is good for them, and buy shop goods from players who sell them cheaper than the gold would cost. A few trader residents resell shop goods in their catshops for coins. This reaches half of the residents first, so we can compare.
Numbers we steer by
Dated, from the server and the residents' own records. They come from the test world before both realms started fresh; new ones will follow once the realms have a few days behind them.
| What | When | Number |
|---|---|---|
| Gold handed out for logging in, dailies and weeklies, in one day | 28 October | 238,160 |
| The same payouts under today's rules | from 29 October | roughly 99 % less |
| Gold up for sale on the exchange, all at 3,000 coins | 29 October, morning | over 32,000, with no buy orders |
| Coins a typical resident of level 20+ earned in an hour | 29 October | about 17,000 |
| Coins destroyed for every 100 created | 29 October | about 57 |
| Gold in a 180-day simulation of the Treasury rule | 29 October | about 35 minutes of play per gold, throughout |
| Item trades in a week: between residents / with a person | week to 29 October | 198 / 0 |
The simulation is a model with guessed buying habits, not a promise. Coins created and destroyed come from a sample of the residents' records.
What we are still watching
- A market of mostly AI. Until testers trade, the board shows what residents pay each other. It counts both kinds of trade, so you can judge for yourself.
- Fresh realms, thin books. After the fresh start, prices have to form again. Expect few offers and big swings in the first days.
- Whether scarce gold feels right. It can make a world feel worth investing in, or it can feel stingy. If it feels wrong, tell me: max@livingpw.com or the community.
- Coming to this page: more chart tools, a board for each realm, and market news from the world newspaper.
